En 1990, le remix – élément de base de l’ADN de la dance music – est une technique utilisée avec parcimonie par les groupes de rock. Soucieux pourtant d’être dans l’air du temps, les Cure décident de retravailler certaines de leurs anciennes chansons piochées dans leurs huit albums studio publiés entre 1979 et 1989. Leurs fans sont alors un brin déroutés par le résultat qui traverse pourtant bien l’épreuve des années. Sur Mixed Up remastérisé ici par Robert Smith en 2018, les relectures assez plates (Lullaby trop proche de l’original) côtoient les plus osées et excitantes (Close to Me) et même les titres inédits comme Never Enough qui faisait alors superbement tache avec son déluge guitaristique… © Marc Zisman/Qobuz
