Sur Mister Mystère, la suite tant attendue du succès écrasant, arrivé en tête des classements Qui de Nous Deux ?, on découvre -M- (le chanteur compositeur et multi-instrumentaliste Matthieu Chédid) dans un nouveau rôle. Le sauvage vêtu de rose à la coiffure en pointe cède la place à un homme mystérieux caché derrière les bords de son chapeau. Mister Mystère marque clairement une rupture, pas vraiment une avancée pour Matthieu Chédid, car il passe à côté de grands espoirs. En considérant toutes ses qualités conceptuelles, Mister Mystère est en fait un effort modeste. Même s'il lui manque les qualités épiques auxquelles on était en droit de s'attendre étant donné le succès de Qui de Nous Deux ? et l'attente de six ans qui a suivi, Mister Mystère fait partie des albums de chanson française amusants de l'année.
