Dans la myriade de musiciens contemporains s’illustrant dans le genre du piano néo-classique, dénudé et méditatif, Jean-Michel Blais tente au moins ici une voie plus diversifiée en termes d’ambiances sonores. Le prélude introductif (murmures, absinthe) se rapproche, tant dans le mélisme mélodique que dans la présence d’instruments non « électriques », d’un certain courant pop où la simplicité de l’émotion n’empêche pas une réelle imagination dans l’écriture. On pense parfois aux divagations évanescentes d’une Susanne Sundfør. C’est pourtant quand le piano reste l’élément réellement conducteur (if you build it, they will come, absinthe) du discours de ces 11 aubades que le message de Blais se nimbe d’une réelle et sincère poésie. © Pierre-Yves Lascar/Qobuz
