Summrs

Louisiana-based rapper Summrs is regarded as a pioneer of pluggnb, which combines plugg (a mellower, more atmospheric variant of trap) with melodic, Auto-Tuned vocals. Associated with the now-defunct Slayworld collective, along with artists like Autumn! and Yeat, he helped establish the pluggnb sound with early mixtapes such as the All Summr series (2017). Subsequent releases like 2022's Fallen Raven often moved toward a harder, more mainstream trap sound, but 2023's Billboard Heatseekers-charting Stuck in My Ways was primarily a return to more atmospheric production. He has continued his prolific run with releases such as 2024's B4DARAVEN. Summrs was born Deante Adam Johnson in Lafayette, Louisiana. His earliest recordings appeared around 2016, and three volumes of the All Summr mixtape series were issued in 2017, along with nearly a dozen other releases, including the 2 Seasons EPs with fellow Slayworld member Autumn! Summrs began receiving more notice for 2018 releases such as Devotion, Revived, and two Bellworld volumes, as the pluggnb scene began to gain momentum, fusing cloud rap atmospherics with brash, Auto-Tune-heavy rapping. World Against Me and Isolated appeared in 2019. Largely quiet in 2020, Summrs returned in 2021 with Intoxicated and two of his most popular releases, the EP What We Have and full-length Nothing More Nothing Less. Fallen Raven, sporting a harder sound than usual for him, appeared in 2022. He collaborated with Trippie Redd on the song "Biggest Bird," which was released in early 2023. Stuck in My Ways, sounding closer to the pluggnb sound than his previous effort, was released by 10K Projects the same year, and reached number 13 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. Ghost and What We Didn't Have followed later in the year, and B4DARAVEN arrived in 2024.
