Elvana Gjata

Commonly referred to as “the Diva of Albanian music,” Elvana Gjata is a pop singer-songwriter and actress from Tirana. Born into a poor household on February 3, 1987, she began performing at the age of 14 and auditioned for the talent show Ethet e së premtes mbrëma. After an unsuccessful attempt to represent Albania at the 42nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, Elvana Gjata released her first single “Të Kam Xhan” in 2005. With her studio debut Mamës (2007), she quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the Balcanic pop scene. More success followed with 2011’s Afër dhe Larg, which earned Gjata her first international award at the 2012 Balkan Music Awards. That year, she also won the dancing contest Dancing With the Stars. Over the course of the next few years, she remained at the top of the Albanian charts with the hit singles “Lejla” (2016), “Forever Is Over” (2017), “Fustani” with Capital T (2019), and Loti (2021), which also reached Number 55 in Switzerland. 2021 also marked the release of her third EP Çelu, written with Albanian composer Pirro Çako and Macedonian producer Darko Dimitrov. Three singles from the EP achieved pole position in Albania: "Drandofilat," "Kunadhe," and "Mos u ngut."
