Brian Giebler

Among the most versatile of the new generation of tenors, Brian Giebler is making an impact in the fields of opera, choral music, and musical theater. He has even performed professionally as a trumpeter. Giebler was born December 22, 1986, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, outside Philadelphia. He attended the University of Maryland for a year but then settled on a musical career, moving to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, graduating in 2010. Giebler also studied the trumpet at Eastman and has performed with the Eastman Wind Ensemble and in the pit orchestras of several Broadway shows. He spent a summer at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2008. Giebler moved on to the University of Michigan for his master's degree, again undertaking studies in the summer at the Aspen Opera Theater Center, receiving his degree at Michigan in 2012. Several strong competition showings helped launch Giebler's career, including a finalist run at the Tafelmusik International Vocal Competition and an honorable mention at the American Bach Society/Bach Choir of Bethlehem Biennial Bach Vocal Competition. Giebler has continued to perform enthusiastically in Baroque choral music; he has sung the Evangelist in Bach's St. Matthew Passion with the Trinity Wall Street Choir (of which he is a member), as well as performing with such groups as Seraphic Fire in Miami, and Apollo's Fire in Cleveland. He has sung solos with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and the New York City Chamber Orchestra, among other groups. Beginning during his graduate student years at Michigan, Giebler has sung operatic roles in works by Mozart and others, portraying Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro and Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Giebler has appeared on various operatic and choral recordings. In 2020, he released his debut album, A Lad's Love, on the Bridge label.
