Bou

Bou is a British DJ and producer in the drum & bass genre. Born Mohamed Amine Bouguenna on November 1996 in Algeria, he moved to Manchester, UK, at a young age. He was first introduced to drum & bass through an illegal rave in the woods of Rivington. From that moment, he was hooked and started learning music production through online tutorials and using FL Studio as his primary digital audio workstation. He began to gain attention in 2017 with his single "Poison," released on Biological Beats. In 2018, Bou had a significant career milestone with the release of his EP Habibi on the label Souped Up Records, featuring Current Value on the A-side track "Higher." This release built on the success of "Poison," consolidating his place in the drum & bass community. His sound began to diversify, influencing not just the jump-up subgenre but also the techier sides of drum & bass. In the same year, Bou also released other EPs like Liondub Street Series, Vol. 23 - Rollers Rights and The Shimada Clan EP. By 2020, Bou had received four awards at the Drum & Bass Awards, including Best Producer, Best Breakthrough Producer, Best Breakthrough DJ, and Best Track for "Veteran." This capped his rapid ascent in the drum & bass scene, which continued even as the COVID-19 pandemic put the global music industry on hold. In 2021, he launched his label, Gossip, which kicked off with the release of "Cous Cous" featuring Inja. Bou's trajectory took another turn with the release of "Closer," his first major label-signed single and crossover success in 2023. The song, which samples Robert Miles' mid-1990s hit "Children" and features MC Slay, was a streaming hit in the United Kingdom.
