AM Higgins

"Annie Meredith Higgins is an American songwriter living in France. She writes dream-like songs that nudge you a bit closer to the cosmos when you hear them. The warmth in her voice is a petition for rest. There’s a poetic mysticism in her lyrics that speak to the wild mysteries embedded in nature. The music, made with the help of her collaborators, is a jittery patchwork backdrop of organ baths, drums, electronics and empty space.

As a quiet, young, precocious kid, Annie spent endless hours making up songs on the piano and writing stories (one neighborhood favorite was called “How To Make Potions.”) An explorer by nature, she was always fascinated with the wildness of the outdoors. Her restlessness eventually led her to find a hidden residency in the foothills of the French Pyrenees, where she immediately felt at home. That residency planted the seed of what was possible; to live in the wild hills of France and write music. Luckily her husband and drummer was on board and the two set off on a permanent adventure of selling everything they owned and moving to the French countryside. In this landscape, she finds herself embedded in the nature that surrounds her and uses her songwriting to reflect back that beauty. Her debut album, Hymning, captures the first years of a transition; the first mystical years of leaving everything you know to find something new; the first years of slowing down your life to give way to the sounds that surround you.

Accompanied by Jason Toth (The Handsome Family, Daniel Knox) on drums, Joshua Dumas (Mending) on electronics, and mixing and additional instruments by Casey Foubert (Sufjan Stevens, The Shins).

Her former Chicago bands Weatherman and Singing in the Abbey have shared US stages with Juana Molina, Ryley Walker, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Cathedrals, Marvin Tate, Wild Belle, Jesca Hoop, Sandro Perri, Moonface, Dosh, and others."
