À propos

Portrait d'une grande artiste. Voix d’or, d’un lyrisme imperturbable, qui a trouvé un terrain d’accomplissement majeur chez Puccini. Ses incarnations de rôles majeurs du répertoire tels que Mimi ou Cio-cio-san (Madama Butterfly), en studio avec son ami d’enfance Luciano Pavarotti et à la direction, Herbert von Karajan, ont marqué la discographie. Ses Verdi apportent une humanité touchante à des rôles abordés souvent de manière plus tragique. Elle reste aussi passionnante dans ses rares Mozart, où elle s’illustra peu – elle interprète Susanna dans Les Noces dirigés chez Philips par Sir Colin Davis. L’un de ses autres grands rôles fut incontestablement Tatiana d’Eugene Onéguine de Tchaïkovski. Pour la « petite » histoire, elle fut l’épouse durant vingt-cinq ans de Nicolai Ghiaurov, autre légende du chant dans la deuxième moitié du XXe siècle.
