Александр Малинин

Aleksander Malinin, one of the best performers of traditional Russian romances, was born in Sverdlovsk (USSR) on November 16, 1958. He graduated from the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic vocal class. His solo debut took place in 1987, during the Moscow rock festival where Malinin performed «Черный ворон» ("Black Raven") and «Ямщик, не гони лошадей» ("Coachman, Do Not Ride Horses"), mixing rock with folk music. The next step that took Malinin to the heights was a Grand Prix at the Yurmala in 1988, the most prestigious music festival in the USSR. His success was overwhelming, and the singer literally woke up famous. In 1990, his producer managed to organize the show called The Aleksander Malinin’s Ball. In 20 days 360, 000 people attended the show, setting a record of that time. These balls became a tradition since then, and Malinin played more than dozen of them, each time creating a new program. The most successful ones were «Девятый бал» ("The 9th Ball"), «Юбилейный бал» ("The Anniversary Ball"), «Пасхальный бал моей души» ("The Easter Ball of My Soul"), and «Серебряный бал» ("The Silver Ball"). In the ‘90s, Aleksander Malinin was mainly associated with classic and modern Russian romances, Russian folk songs and ballads, while in the 2000s, he added pop albums and pop hits to his discography, such as «Если бы не ты» ("Without You") (2011) or «Любовь жива» ("Love Lives") (2018). Aleksander Malinin released more than 20 albums, two of them in the Ukrainian language. The most significant albums are Ночи окаянные (Mad Nights) (2000), Берега (Banks) (2001), and his compilation 50 лучших песен (50 Greatest Hits) (2013). Malinin’s songs «Поручик Голицын» ("Lieutenant Golitsyn", 1988), «Айседора» ("Isadora", 1991), «Пустые слова» ("Vain Words", 1995) are still all-time hits.
