Killswitch Engage est voué à la deuxième division du metal comme le prouve chacun de ses albums, The End of Heartache ne faisant ni exception, ni illusion.
Musicalement le groupe s'évertue à reproduire du Slayer d'il y a maintenant plus de vingt ans, voire du Metallica ou du Faith No More sans les mélodies. Ajouter à celà un chanteur particulièrement indigent et le tableau est complet.
The End of Heartache propose une suite de morceaux dont la violence semble vide, les thèmes répétitifs, il faut ne rien avoir de plus consistant à se mettre dans le casque pour se laisser séduire par Killswitch Engage.
