Difficile de placer la barre plus haut que de réunir ces trois-là : Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt et Emmylou Harris. Deux albums sont nés de cette union d’un jour (Trio et Trio II) que cette réédition agrémente de nombreux trésors inédits… En 1987, l’enregistrement que signent les trois quadragénaires stars de la country music est un régal, dans le répertoire comme dans l’interprétation. Aux côtés des trois grâces, des musiciens parfaits nommés notamment Ry Cooder, Albert Lee, David Lindley, Mark O'Connor et Bill Payne. Ce répertoire donc, sublime union entre classiques country et folk (Jimmie Rodgers, Porter Wagoner et Dolly évidemment) mais aussi pop (le To Know Him Is To Love Him de Phil Spector). Chaque voix est un sommet de perfection et ne cherche jamais à tirer la couverture à elle. Quant aux harmonies vocales, elles sont aussi à tomber. Les super group, alléchants sur le papier, accouchent rarement de disques bouleversant. L’inverse de ce Trio qui fut un succès international, critique et public, écoulé à plus de quatre millions d’exemplaires et récompensé par deux Grammy Awards. Assez en tout cas pour qu’un Trio II voit le jour douze ans plus tard en 1999… Un Trio II ayant la particularité première de contenir cinq de ses dix titres issus de Feels Like Home, album publié quatre ans plus tôt par Linda Ronstadt. On retrouve à nouveau ce sentiment intense et assez unique provoqué par l’entrelacs de ces voix aux timbres si différents. Cette Deluxe Edition, en plus des deux albums originaux, comprend en prime un troisième disque de vingt titres (prises alternatives et inédits) de bonne facture. © MD/Qobuz
