Dernier album de la formation originelle de Lynyrd Skynyrd avant le crash qui survient trois jours après sa sortie, Street Survivors est donc le dernier album « historique » du groupe tel qu’il était alors constitué. Ironiquement, la pochette de disque présentait les membres de la bande à Ronnie Van Zant entourés de flammes ardentes, sans imaginer à quel point cette vision était prophétique. Musicalement, Street Survivors se classe dans la lignée de Gimme Back My Bullets et n’atteint pas les fulgurances de Second Helping, beaucoup plus inspiré. Précocement tragique comme un mauvais rêve prémonitoire, il n’empêche que l’accident d’avion tragique fait énormément pour la médiatisation de l’album. Cynique, mais réaliste.
