Pour quiconque préfère Ellie Goulding en mode dancefloor, Higher Than Heaven constituera un retour bienvenu en ces territoires après un Brightest Blue de 2020 placé sous le signe de l'introspection. Gorgé de tonalités synthétiques balayant un panel de genres allant de la dance-pop à la synthwave en passant par l'electropop, la house façon années 90 ou le nu-disco, l'album est présenté par la chanteuse comme son moins personnel en date, tout entier tourné vers la guérison via l'euphorie et la libération, et tombe quelque part entre son Halcyon de 2012 et son Delirium de 2015, constituant peut-être son effort le plus abouti en date propulsé dans les charts par le single "Easy Lover" en compagnie de Big Sean. Décliné en version Deluxe, Higher Than Heaven propose par ailleurs le hit "All By Myself" de 2022 en compagnie d'Alok et Sigala et basé sur le "Enjoy the Silence" de Depeche Mode.
