Dans le grand brassage du phénomène High School Musical, la comédie musicale à sensation des préados voit désormais les chansons au service de l’histoire, chantées par un casting tournant. Cela aide au fonctionnement du film, mais condamne les bandes originales à n'être plus que de simples souvenirs du scénario. Sur HSM3, deux chansons seulement ont un potentiel de single pop, et il s’agit dans les deux cas des prestations des deux plus grandes vedettes de la franchise, Vanessa Hudgens et Zac Efron. Hudgens offre la meilleure chanson de l’album avec la mélancolique et très habile "Walk Away", et Efron fait le paon façon NSYNC dans "Scream". Mais tous deux sont éclipsés par Ashley Tisdale, qui fait preuve de bien plus de charisme dans son numéro d’assoiffée de gloire "I Want It All".
