Furia Latina cemented Seguridad Social's mass popularity in Spain and the quartet's ability to mix up the material, plus their savvy arrangements, make it easy to understand why. "Me Siento Bien" hits the ground running; the intro riff launches Alberto Tarín, a very smart and minimal guitarist, into a brief solo that lands right on target in the clipped chords that drive the song. Their economy serves Seguridad Social well -- the vaguely Spanish guitar riff over a basic boogie bottom on "Aceituna," the tom-toms and sitar lick on "Las Entrañas," and the acoustic reggae of "Desierto de Amor" jump out because the band leaves so much space in the arrangements. The light, lilting verses and driving chorus made "Quiero Tener Tu Presencia" a big Spanish hit, but the key track is "El Viajero," an eight-minute epic that celebrates the rock & roll traveling lifestyle. The song builds cumulatively -- leader Jose Manuel Casañ has the vocal personality to command naked settings supported only by Tarín's intelligent guitar before the song shifts into a Latin groove with excellent backing vocals and comes full circle back to an acoustic finale. Some of the songs fall on the slight side, but not far because Seguridad Social has their rock and pop fundamentals down. A solid band and solid disc.
