En 2017, le DJ allemand Tino Piontek (alias Tino Schmidt ou Sterofunk) livrait le premier volume de ses incartades du domaine de la house music vers des terres nu-disco sur Soulmatic, premier opus de son nouveau projet Purple Disco Machine. Cinq ans plus tard, en 2022 et alors que les discothèques peuvent enfin espérer un retour à la normale après la pandémie de Covid-19, Piontek revient avec Exotica, collection de quatorze titres gorgée d'invités, de Sarah Beck ("Can't get Enough") à Ed Mac ("Wanna Feel Like a Lover") en passant par Eyelar ("Dopamine") ou Sophie and the Giants sur le single "Hypnotized", participant notamment à le propulser en huitième position des charts à domicile.
