Alors qu’il boucle une tournée avec Delaney & Bonnie, un désaccord met fin à la collaboration de Clapton avec le couple. Sa créativité ne l’ayant cependant pas quitté, le guitariste décide de se lancer dans l’aventure solo et réussit avec brio ses débuts en tant que leader. Eric Clapton sort en 1970, suite à des sessions d’enregistrement à Los Angeles et Londres. Très pop, l’album se nourrit malgré tout de gospel ou de r’n’b pour édifier un éventail musical assez large. Accompagné de Brownie (sa première Stratocaster), le Britannique sait aussi s’occuper d’une autre lors des passages en acoustique (Easy Now). La légende est en marche. © AR/Qobuz
