Entre la sublime photo choc de la pochette où elle pose nue, assise au sol, en offrant ses rondeurs XXL et l’impressionnant rugissement des premières secondes de ce troisième album, Melissa Viviane Jefferson alias Lizzo dit cash et sans filtre qui elle est et ce qu’elle représente. Flûtiste classique de formation ayant même pigé pour Prince en 2014, la tigresse de Detroit installée à L.A. ne se contente pourtant pas de ces simples revendications et signe un vrai grand disque de soul et de R&B. Une soul hétéroclite qui fait aussi bien dans le vintage (le titre éponyme Cuz I Love You) que dans la nu soul, la pop (Juice, Soulmate) voire le hip-hop. Les paysages changent mais Lizzo reste elle-même, avec une gouaille héritée de Betty Davis (Crybaby), Tina Turner, Macy Gray ou bien Katy Perry (Like a Girl) ou même Missy Elliott.
