Reconnu pour ses pastiches hilarants des stars du moment, Weird Al Yaankovic est surtout pertinent avec les vidéos qu'il tire de ses meilleures imitations. Ainsi Lady Gaga s'avère une cliente de choix avec « Born This Way » qui devient « Perform This Way » entre les pattes de l'humoriste. Weird Al Yankovic apparaît comme une Lady Gaga plus vraie que nature dans le clip qui accompagne le titre.
Hormis cet atout visuel évident, l'écoute d'un album de Weird Al Yankovic se révèle bien moins passionnante. Sans l'image et sans comprendre parfaitement l'anglais, ses versions des titres de Miley Cyrus (« Party in the C.I.A. » pour « Party in the U.S.A. ») ou Taylor Swift sont de simples reprises des originaux avec des textes différents.
Seul finalement son traditionnel medley façon polka - ici intitulé « Polka Face » - est jouissif du fait qu'il détourne musicalement des tubes de Lady Gaga, Katy Perry et autres Taio Cruz. Ses titres propres reprennent l'univers d'un artiste comme « Ringtone » qui offre un saisissant raccourci du style de Queen. Amusant quelques minutes mais en rien marquant.
Alpocalypse reste un plutôt bon cru de la discographie de Weird Al Yankovic où le très bon à appris à côtoyer le médiocre au fil des ans et des inspirations. Il reste cependant préférable de regarder ou télécharger légalement les vidéos que de s'astreindre à écouter l'album.
