Premier album solo de Tupac Shakur alias 2Pac, 2Pacalypse Now, sorti fin 1991 alors que l’artiste n’a que 20 ans est de loin, celui qui aborde le plus de sujets sociaux comme la pauvreté des ghettos ou la brutalité policière. Encore loin du style Gangsta Rap qui sera par la suite sa marque de fabrique, le disque est essentiellement popularisé par les singles « Brenda’s Got A Baby » et « If My Homies Call », se classant disque d’or, performance remarquable pour la première galette d’un jeune artiste sortant à peine de la rue.
Coaché à l'époque par Interscope Records (dont le directeur sera écarté par Puff Daddy quelques années plus tard), avant de se voir influencé par l’omnipotent producteur Suge Knight, Tupac était encore un artiste engagé loin de l’imagerie traditionnelle du rap.
