Cinque brani registrati in due sessioni in uno studio della Columbia Records nel marzo/aprile 1959 da Miles Davis, accompagnato da Bill Evans, Julian “Cannonball” Adderley, John Coltrane, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers e Jimmy Cobb. Cinque brani che, racchiusi nell’album “Kind of blue” fecero la storia del jazz e non solo, influenzando anche il rock e la classica, diventando un punto di riferimento assoluto nella storia della musica. Primo esempio di “modal jazz”, un particolare stile basato su un differente approccio musicale rispetto alle aggressivita’ di stili come l’hard bop, “Kind of blue” secondo la maggioranza della critica e’ il punto massimo dell’arte del compositore e trombettista di Santa Monica, rendendo immortali classici come “So what”, “Freddie Freeloader” e “Flamenco sketches”, la cui primissima esecuzione e’ stata aggiunta alla ristampa del disco, che nei soli Stati Uniti ha ottenuto quattro dischi di platino per oltre quattro milioni di copie vendute.
