Traditionnellement, le métier de chef d’orchestre est l’un de ceux dont les représentants vivent le plus longtemps. Ce ne fut hélas pas le cas du Suisse Marcello Viotti, disparu à seulement cinquante ans, après une attaque cérébrale en pleine répétition de Manon. Sa carrière l’avait mené très jeune à occuper des fonctions importantes, telles que celle de chef principal de l’Orchestre de la Radio de Saarbrücken de 1991 à 1995 – avant de s’envoler vers d’encore plus prestigieuses fonctions à Munich et à la Fenice de Venise. C’est de l’époque sarrebruckoise que date son intégrale des œuvres symphoniques de Schubert, à savoir les huit symphonies et les quatre ouvertures de concert – on ne considère donc pas ici les ouvertures de ses opéras. Un voyage fascinant à travers toute la vie créatrice du compositeur, sous la baguette d’un musicien inspiré et modeste qui savait se mettre entièrement au service des œuvres qu’il dirigeait. © SM/Qobuz
