La quantité est là. La qualité, moins. Du robinet du rap américain coule assez peu d’élixir divin. Assez peu pour s’exciter dès qu’une production originale, maîtrisée ou tout simplement impressionnante coule dans les oreilles des fans de hip hop. good kid, m.A.A.d city de Kendrick Lamar est de ces albums qui ne font guère douter : et ce dès la première écoute. Ceux qui tombèrent sur les diverses mixtapes de ce jeune rappeur originaire de Compton (fief de feu N.W.A.) savaient que son flow comme ses rimes ou ses sons visaient au cœur. La nonchalance propre à certains classiques californiens (Warren G, Snoop Dogg ou les premières productions de Dr Dre…) est bien là. Épurée comme jamais, la production joue la carte du subtil. Quant à l’organe de Lamar, il slalome en douceur, tel un velours vocal. Après la révélation Frank Ocean (sur un registre plus electro), Kendrick Lamar est la seconde bonne nouvelle pour les fans de rap en 2012. Très très bonne nouvelle même...
