Gifted performer Benjamin Alard is fully immersed in the world of Johann Sebastian Bach, having recorded the composer’s complete works for solo keyboard (harpsichord, clavichord and organ) for the label Harmonia Mundi. This vast project, spanning ten years, challenges current knowledge and offers fresh perspectives, due to Alard’s refined interpretation, elevation of thought and the incorporation of a myriad of instruments from a variety of countries.

The publication of this sixth volume, devoted to the First Book of the Well-Tempered Clavier, coincides with the 300th anniversary of the original publication of this monumental and didactic musical collection. After the first five volumes, covering Bach's apprenticeship years up to the so-called "Weimar" period, Benjamin Alard approaches the First Book of the Well-Tempered Clavier, as always, in his own personal way.

Firstly, the Preludes and Fugues are arranged in a brand-new way. Two historic Hass instruments, a harpsichord and a clavichord create an array of colours and registers that are often surprising. It also features the largest harpsichord in the world at the time, with its three manuals and exceptional registers.
