The Como Mamas
The Como Mamas are a female gospel trio from Como, Mississippi, who got their name due to their participation in Como Now, a compilation of field recordings from 2006 curated by Daptone Records' Michael Reilly. The group comprises Ester Mae Smith and sisters Angela Taylor and Della Daniels -- the latter pair's grandfather, Miles Pratcher, had been recorded in Como by folklorist Alan Lomax in 1959. Their debut album, Get an Understanding, was issued by Daptone in early 2013. The critical reception was unanimously positive. Three years later, with assistance from the nonprofit Music Makers Relief Foundation, the Como Mamas recorded again, but this time with the Daptone house band (under the moniker the Glorifiers) backing them up. The album, Move Upstairs, was released in May of 2017.
