Tayo Sound

A Nigerian-Scottish songwriter who operates under the moniker Tayo Sound, Tayo Oyekan emerged in 2018 with a versatile style that combines elements of beats-driven alt-pop and hazy late-summer soul. He released his debut EP, Runaway, in 2021, which included the hits "Gone" and "Cold Feet." Based out of Reading, England, Oyekan's religious upbringing resulted in the church becoming his introduction to music. His interest piqued after hearing a pop ringtone on his brother's phone, which set the budding artist on a quest to make his own sounds. Drawing from a wide array of influences, from grime and trap to Indian pop, and inserting his own cultural touchstones like Scottish narrative and African beats, Oyekan began writing songs, and at the age of 16, left school to pursue music full-time. After earning enough cash from busking, he pieced together a home studio and began sending tracks wherever he could. Two of those cuts eventually found their way to British Columbia music portal Hillydilly, which began pushing the song "Yes or No." Before long, Oyekan was fielding offers from labels, and eventually signed on with Arista imprint Black Butter, which sent him to London, Los Angeles, and Sweden to work with notable songwriters and producers like George Reid (Aluna George), Rob Milton (Easy Life), and Courage, who helmed his breezy debut single, 2020's "Cold Feet," which appeared on the 2021 EP Runaway. Oyekan kept the momentum going in 2022 with a string of singles, including "Forwards and Backwards" and a collaboration with Rudimental, ("Hide and Seek"). Later that year, he was featured on Cassia's "Confidence."
