Sugarplum Fairy
Sugarplum Fairy is a rock band from Borlänge, Sweden. They are strongly influenced by classic rock bands such as the Rolling Stones, the Who, and the Beatles (in fact, the band name is a reference to John Lennon's introduction to "A Day in the Life"), as well as Oasis (who themselves are strongly influenced by the aforementioned groups). The band consists of brothers Victor Norén (vocals, bass) and Carl Norén (vocals, guitar), David Hebert (bass, organ), drummer Kristian Gidlund, and guitarist Jonas Karlsson. Victor and Carl are the younger brothers of Swedish rock sensation Mando Diao's Gustaf Norén.
Founded in 1998, the band played together for six years before they released their first EP, Stay Young, in April 2004. Later that year, the band had its first hit single in its native country ("Sweet Jackie") and released their debut album, Young & Armed, which was issued in the rest of Europe as well as in Japan in February 2005. After touring Sweden, Norway, Germany, and Japan together with Mando Diao, the group released its sophomore album, First Round First Minute, in August 2006. In 2007, frontman Victor Norén landed a supporting role playing rock icon Mick Jagger in the German movie Das Wilde Leben (Eight Miles High!), a biopic of famous '60s groupie Uschi Obermaier. The band then continued to tour Germany, playing several large festivals.
