A native of the Netherlands, Menno Van Delft attended the Sweelinck Academy of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he pursued studies in harpsichord, organ, and musicology. Later, he studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and the University of Utrecht. His teachers included harpsichordists Gustav Leonhardt and Bob van Asperen, organists Piet Kee and Jacques van Oortmerssen, and musicologist Willem Elders. Van Delft was also a member of the chant-based Schola Cantorum Amsterdam, directed by Wim van Gerven. Van Delft participated in the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Competition in Hamburg in 1988, and at the Holland Festival of Early Music in 1989, which led to concerts across Europe and the United States. Van Delft appears as a soloist and as a continuo player on harpsichord and clavichord, performing with the Nederlandse Opera, the Combattimento Consort, the Schönbrunn Ensemble, Al Ayre Español, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, and the Netherlands Chamber Choir. He has also worked with Marion Verbruggen, Jaap ter Linden, Pieter Wispelwey, Bart Schneemann, Lucia Swarts, and Jacques Zoon, among others. In addition to performing and recording Renaissance and Baroque repertoire, he gives lectures and writes about historical performance practice, keyboard techniques, and period tuning. Van Delft has led the Jan van Ruusbroec Ensemble in works by William Byrd, Peter Philips, and Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, and he founded the group Das Zimmermannsche Caffee, to specialize in Rococo music. He is also a founding member of the New Dutch Academy. He also performs in keyboard duos with Siebe Henstra in Der Prallende Doppelschlag, and Stefano Demicheli in La Bassa Fiamenga. His recordings have been issued by Globe, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Chandos, EMI, Resonus, Teknon, Brilliant, and Decca.
