A pioneering beatmaker in the U.K. drill scene, London-based M1OnTheBeat's production catalog has included many of the genre's most iconic tracks, including Loski's "Money and Beef," CGM's "Next Up?," Digga D's "Woi," Headie One's "Golden Boot," and Drake and Headie One's "Only You Freestyle." Leaving home at the age of just 16, London-based producer M1OnTheBeat sought independence from an early age, living in the YMCA in Hornsey while cutting his teeth as a musician. While studying production, he came into contact with fellow U.K. producer MkThePlug. The two quickly became strong collaborators, finding early success together by co-producing CGM's "Play for the Pagans" and CB's "Take That Risk." Building a sound with brooding sonics and stormy 808s, M1 had a defining impact on the sound of many of U.K. drill's earliest hits, producing Loski's "Money and Beef" and "Mummy's Kitchen," CGM's "Next Up?," and Headie One's "Golden Boot" in 2017 alone. He continued a strong run through the late 2010s alongside artists from across the scene; among the highlights were Headie One's "Of Course," Frosty's "County Lines 2," OFB's "Next Up," Morrisson's "Shots," and DigDat's "Daily Duppy." Making a strong start to 2020 with Digga D's comeback single "Woi," which entered the U.K. chart at number 24, M1 found his biggest success shortly after with the Headie One and Drake collaboration "Only You Freestyle." With a Drake cosign putting U.K. drill on the map for international listeners, the track made waves within the genre, as well as landing a number five spot on the U.K. charts and a gold certification domestically. After further successes across the early 2020s, including K-Trap's "Warm" and Headie's "Martin's Sofa," the producer released his debut full-length project in November 2023. Titled M1OnTheBeat The Mixtape, the project was anchored to a core of U.K. drill and featured collaborations with drill icons and upcoming talents alike.
