Joanna Wallfisch
Born in London, England, fragile- but not frail-voiced jazz vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Joanna Wallfisch is the daughter of classical cellist Raphael Wallfisch and violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch. Her solo debut, the delicate Wild Swan, was recorded in 2011 at the Douglas Street Studios in Brooklyn, New York and released in early 2012. That same year, she completed a Masters in Jazz Performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and relocated to New York City. In 2013, she toured the U.S. with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as part of the Chorale le Chateau, and in 2014 appeared on film soundtracks including All the Beautiful Things and Desert Dancer. Her second album, 2015's The Origin of Adjustable Things featuring pianist Dan Tepfer, consisted of eight original compositions and four covers, including a hushed interpretation of Radiohead's "Creep," Tim Buckley's "Song to a Siren," and the Academy Award-nominated Tiomkin-Washington song "Wild Is the Wind."
