Ikon

One of South Korea's most successful boy bands since the mid-2010s, iKON topped the national Gaon chart with their debut album, Welcome Back (2015), released two years after most of the members were introduced on the competitive reality television series WIN: Who Is Next (as Team B). iKON have repeatedly hit the chart's upper reaches with follow-up album Return, the New Kids series of releases (2018-2019), and additional EPs such as I Decide (2020) and Flashback (2022). B.I., Bobby, Donghyuk, Jinhwhan, Ju-ne (formerly Junhoe), and Yunhyeong appeared together first as Team B on WIN: Who Is Next, in which they competed against a fellow team of trainees under the agency YG Entertainment. They lost a fan vote to Team A, which featured more established members, but the show earned them a following, and the group released their first two singles that year. The sextet starred in a second television series, Mix & Match, in which other trainees vied for group membership. Chanwoo became the seventh iKON member after a fan vote involving two other hopefuls. iKON's first album, Welcome Back, was released near the end of 2015 and entered the South Korean album chart at number one. B.I. produced the set in its entirety, and with Bobby and a small team of associates co-wrote all the songs. Full of hits, Welcome Back contained the number one singles "My Type" and "Apology," and five other songs that reached the Top 20. A few singles followed during 2016 and 2017, during which the group completed their first tours of Asia. A live album and a couple compilations also preceded the chart-topping single "Love Scenario" and proper full-length follow-up Return, both of which were issued in 2018. After completing their ongoing series of New Kids EPs, iKON packaged them together in 2019 into a full-length album. That same year also saw a pair of live releases from their 2018 and 2019 tours of Japan, as well as the departure of B.I., whose contract with YG Entertainment was terminated. The first recording iKON released after B.I. left, the I Decide EP, actually featured material co-written and produced by their former bandmate while he was still in the lineup. The five-track effort reached number three on the South Korean album chart. After a comparatively quiet 2021 with only the single "Why Why Why," iKON narrowly missed scoring yet another number one release the next year with the Flashback EP, their first major release without B.I.
