Geraldine Milligan

Geraldine Hunt - born Geraldine Milligan in St. Louis, Missouri on February 10, 1945 – was an R&B singer best known for her 1980 disco hit "Can't Fake the Feeling". Growing up in Chicago in a family of musicians, she attended high school with her best friend Minnie Riperton and eventually signed with the Checker Records label. Her early releases included the singles “I Let Myself Go” (1962) and “Sneak Around” (1963). She didn’t achieve chart success until 1970 with the release of “You & I,” her duet with Charlie Hodges, which reached Number 45 on Billboard’s R&B Singles chart. Her first solo singles to hit the charts were 1972’s “Baby, I Need Your Loving” (Number 47) and 1973’s “You Brought Joy” (Number 78). Geraldine Hunt moved to Montreal, Canada in 1975 and finally released her debut album, Sweet Honesty, in 1978. Two years later, Geraldine Hunt released her second album, No Way, which featured the singles “No Way,” “I Feel Like a Woman Again,” and “Can’t Fake the Feeling.” A Number 1 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart, “Can’t Fake the Feeling” also rose to Number 58 on the R&B Singles chart and became a hit in the UK and France. Her next single “Heart Heart” (a duet with Charles Marotta) reached Number 17 on the Dance Club chart, but the momentum on her career stalled and Geraldine Hunt faded from the spotlight. She spent time working with two of her children – Freddie James and Rosalind Hunt – and released the album Soultry, Jazzy & Sexy in 1999. Geraldine Hunt died on October 27, 2022, at the age of 77.
