Drones Club

London-based trio Drones Club are somewhere between an electro-pop band and a conceptual art organization. Citing the KLF, Soulwax, and Devo as influences, the group take a similarly subversive approach to pop music, evoking religious ceremonies and political rallies during their (sometimes guerrilla) performances. Following several singles and EPs that ranged from ecstatic house tracks to abstract techno-gospel, the group released their full-length debut, Big World, in 2019. Drones Club formed in 2015, with the aim of reconnecting people in a society plagued with low attention spans. By the time they signed to PMR and released their DFA-esque neo-disco single "Soul of a Spaceman" that November, they had crashed London's Fashion Week bearing signs reading "The Emperor's New Drones." Subsequent stunts included handing out lambs' hearts at a Tory conference and distributing pamphlets during a post-apocalyptic performance at the Arcola Theatre. The group released numerous singles and the Rasa EP in 2016, drifting between icy techno-pop and fervent house. A second EP titled White Crocodile appeared in 2017, incorporating rave and jungle influences. Several additional singles preceded the release of debut full-length Big World, issued by Joyrider Recordings in 2019.
