Ben UFO

Ben UFO (Ben Thomson) is one of London's most forward-thinking DJs, and a cornerstone of the post-dubstep bass music scene. A co-founder of Hessle Audio, a label that has continuously explored the outer edges of what can be considered club music, UFO is similarly adventurous during his DJ sets, bringing numerous styles together into an unpredictable yet cohesive flow. On occasion, he does sets dedicated to old-school jungle. Unlike most DJs in the scene, UFO is active solely as a DJ and not as a producer or remixer. His only commercially available mix CDs to date are Rinse: 16 (2011) and Fabriclive 67 (2013), but he's released several underground mixtapes and contributed to numerous podcast series, from Boiler Room to Dekmantel. He hosts a weekly show on Rinse FM, and has made appearances on BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix. Along with Pearson Sound/Ramadanman (David Kennedy) and Pangaea (Kevin McAuley), Ben UFO founded Hessle Audio in 2007. Home to early releases by James Blake, Untold, Objekt, and Blawan, the label quickly became one of the most boundary-pushing labels in the underground dance music scene. Along with Kennedy, UFO hosts the weekly Hessle Audio radio program on London dance music radio station Rinse FM. Their sets focus on new, exclusive music and freshly discovered rarities, and they rarely play a track more than once. After producing podcasts for Resident Advisor and Boiler Room, UFO made his commercial mix CD debut in 2011 with Rinse: 16. Fabriclive 67 followed in 2013. He's released a few limited mixtapes, including a split release with Beatrice Dillon in 2016, and a tape for streetwear designer Cav Empt in 2020. He made his third Essential Mix appearance in 2021.
