Come in un'espressione reale di qualcosa di fittizio, nel suo nuovo album/illusione ottica - Tip-Top - Chansons d'ennui - Jarvis Cocker reinterpreta una serie di classici della musica francese degli anni '60 e '70. Il concetto - enigmatico e al contempo terribilmente affascinante - è questo: Tip-Top è un personaggio del film di Wes Anderson, The French Dispatch, interpretato dal leader dei Pulp. La sua apparizione è fugace e solo sonora, poiché tutto ciò che sentiamo di lui è una cover di Aline che esce da un jukebox. Tuttavia, questo piccolo cameo ha dato l'idea ai due singolari artisti (Cocker e Anderson) di giocare fino in fondo e di pubblicare un intero, vero disco di Tip-Top. Con il suo delizioso accento inglese, la sua voce profonda e i raffinati arrangiamenti, il cantante inglese reinterpreta Christophe, Nino Ferrer (Amour, Je Te Cherche, la versione francese di Looking For You), Jacques Dutronc (Les Gens Sont Fous, Les Temps Sont Flous) e il suo idolo di sempre, Serge Gainsbourg (Requiem Pour Un Con). La differenza tra la personalità di Cocker e la scelta di certe canzoni è anche la vera forza di Chansons d'ennui: quando affronta il duetto Dalida/Alain Delon (Paroles Paroles) o Bourvil (La Tendresse), l'ascoltatore viene improvvisamente catapultato in una dimensione alternativa. In questo album vero/fittizio di Tip-Top troviamo anche un brano particolarmente caro a Jarvis Cocker (Mon Ami La Rose di Françoise Hardy, che ascolta da quando era adolescente) e una cover che simboleggia tutta l'allegra follia del progetto, quella di Contact, una stravagante canzone di Brigitte Bardot, scritta da Gainsbourg nel 1967. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
