Tutti gli appassionati di musica per film che frequentano il mitico negozio di dischi The Record Album a Brighton sanno che Thom Yorke fa spesso rifornimento in questa caverna di Ali Babà gestita dal venerando George Ginn. Era quindi prevedibile che un giorno il cantante dei Radiohead facesse il grande passo e si mettesse ad apporre le sue note malinconiche su delle immagini. Dopo aver tergiversato per mesi dinanzi a un incarico del genere, accetta infine di scrivere la musica di Suspiria, remake di un grande classico del cinema horror realizzato da Dario Argento nel 1977. Stavolta, però, dietro la cinepresa c’è Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name), mentre Yorke ha il gravoso compito di sostituire i Goblin e la loro sublime colonna sonora krautrock.
Interpretata, tra gli altri, dalla London Contemporary Orchestra and Choir, dal flautista Pasha Mansurov e dal figlio dello stesso Yorke (Noah) alla batteria, la sua musica ammaliatrice – a cui si aggiungono a volte effetti sonori tratti dal film – suscita nell’ascoltatore un malessere diffuso ma istantaneo. Citiamo, tanto per fare un esempio, il tema principale The Hooks e le sue note al pianoforte simili a un rumore di passi che rallentano progressivamente, o ancora Voiceless Terror e i suoi sintetizzatori acuti e spaventosi, per non parlare di Sabbath Incantation e dei suoi cori che vanno a sfregarsi contro quelle stesse sonorità elettroniche. La colonna sonora contiene anche delle canzoni originali scritte e interpretate da Thom Yorke. Più dolci e malinconiche che inquietanti (e quindi più vicine allo spirito dei Radiohead), piccole chicche come Suspirium e Has Ended instaurano una certa tregua all’interno una soundtrack che rispetta appieno il protocollo della musica da film horror. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz

Tutti gli appassionati di musica per film che frequentano il mitico negozio di dischi The Record Album a Brighton sanno che Thom Yorke fa spesso rifornimento in questa caverna di Ali Babà gestita dal venerando George Ginn. Era quindi prevedibile che un giorno il cantante dei Radiohead facesse il grande passo e si mettesse ad apporre le sue note malinconiche su delle immagini. Dopo aver tergiversato per mesi dinanzi a un incarico del genere, accetta infine di scrivere la musica di Suspiria, remake di un grande classico del cinema horror realizzato da Dario Argento nel 1977. Stavolta, però, dietro la cinepresa c’è Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name), mentre Yorke ha il gravoso compito di sostituire i Goblin e la loro sublime colonna sonora krautrock.
Interpretata, tra gli altri, dalla London Contemporary Orchestra and Choir, dal flautista Pasha Mansurov e dal figlio dello stesso Yorke (Noah) alla batteria, la sua musica ammaliatrice – a cui si aggiungono a volte effetti sonori tratti dal film – suscita nell’ascoltatore un malessere diffuso ma istantaneo. Citiamo, tanto per fare un esempio, il tema principale The Hooks e le sue note al pianoforte simili a un rumore di passi che rallentano progressivamente, o ancora Voiceless Terror e i suoi sintetizzatori acuti e spaventosi, per non parlare di Sabbath Incantation e dei suoi cori che vanno a sfregarsi contro quelle stesse sonorità elettroniche. La colonna sonora contiene anche delle canzoni originali scritte e interpretate da Thom Yorke. Più dolci e malinconiche che inquietanti (e quindi più vicine allo spirito dei Radiohead), piccole chicche come Suspirium e Has Ended instaurano una certa tregua all’interno una soundtrack che rispetta appieno il protocollo della musica da film horror. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
