Nel 1992 gli Alice in Chains rilasciano Dirt, secondo progetto in studio della formazione grunge-metal di Seattle e uno dei suoi più grandi successi di carriera. L’album multiplatino raggiunge la sesta posizione della Billboard 200 americana rimanendo in classifica per ben 102 settimane. Questo nonostante risulti essere un lavoro duro e pieno di dolore per i temi trattati. Uno su tutti: l’abuso di droghe ed eroina, da cui lo stesso frontman Layne Staley è, durante la registrazione del disco, pienamente dipendente (muore nel 2002 per overdose di speedball). In occasione del trentesimo anniversario, la band ripubblica Dirt con una speciale versione deluxe in formato doppio LP.
