The Sugarhill Gang
La culture hip-hop se développe dans les ghettos afro-américains tout au long des années 70. Il faut attendre le coup de pouce de la productrice Sylvia Robinson pour voir le premier de ces fruits éclore au grand jour. The Sugarhill Gang sort le simple « Rapper's Delight » en 1979 basé sur un sample de « Good Times » de Chic. Le succès est énorme et le mot rap fait son entrée dans le vocabulaire musical. Blondie s'inspire elle de « Rapper's Delight » pour « Rapture » en 1980. Si The Sugarhill Gang ne revient jamais au premier plan après ce coup d'éclat, il reste mythique comme en témoigne sa présence sur « Lala Song » de Bob Sinclar en 2009.
