The Bastard Noise
Initially begun as a side project of L.A.-based noise rock combo Man is the Bastard, Bastard Noise indulged member Eric Wood’s growing use of purpose-built homemade electronic instruments and involvement in the underground noise community. When MitB dissolved in 1997, BN’s lineup was solidified on principals Wood, W.T. Nelson and Danny Walker. The group made significant inroads into the noise and experimental music scene, collaborating with such notable artists as Merzbow, Keiji Haino, and Buckethead. A fixture on the power electronics scene, BN’s idiosyncratic sound was well-documented on hundreds of independently released, small-press, and limited editions throughout the ‘90s and ‘00s.
