Tay Kewei

Born in Singapore on August 18, 1983, Tay Kewei is a pop and jazz singer/songwriter who has recorded songs in English, Chinese, and Japanese. In the very early stages of her singing career, she was a contestant on the televised talent competition show Project SuperStar, but ultimately withdrew to focus on her work as a background and duet vocalist for Chinese pop stars. She independently released the KEEP! EP - featuring keyboardist Lee Ein Ein – in 2009. Her debut album, Come Closer with… Kewei, was released in 2010 and featured songs sung in English and Chinese. The album was a success in many Asian regions including Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Kewei was named the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore and the Singaporean representative at the Hong Kong Asian Pop Music Festival’s Super Nova Awards. Her second album, Fallin’, was released in February 2012. Her 2014 album, Piano Ballads featuring Kewei, was a Japanese-only release and reached Number 1 on the week of release. Her 2014 album Turn Back and Smile, was her first original Mandarin album and proved to be another success. Her third album of 2014 was Natural Soul. At this point in her career, she began to branch out into acting, appearing on television and on stage in theater productions. She also provided music for TV series and video games. Kewei issued the Chi EP in 2016. While her recorded output slowed down, Kewei remained a popular live performer and television personality. In 2020, she collaborated with fellow Singaporean artist Gentle Bones (real name: Joel Tan) on the hit single “Don’ You Know Yet?”
