Tasha Warren
Clarinetist Tasha Warren is a champion of new music, premiering more than 100 new works for her instrument. She is also an educator who has taught at several major U.S. universities.
Warren was born in Texas in 1971. She has also performed under the names Tasha Warren Dzubay and Tasha Warren-Yehuda. Warren attended the University of Indiana, studying with James Campbell and Eli Eban, and remaining in the program for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, receiving the latter in 2007. She won the school's concerto competition in 2006. Warren taught for a time at Louisiana State University and then joined the faculty of the University of Virginia and later Michigan State University. In these positions, she created study-abroad programs in Spain and India. She has also been active as an orchestral and ensemble clarinetist, performing with such groups as the Columbus (Indiana) Philharmonic, the Charlottesville Symphony in Virginia, the Jackson and Lansing Symphonies in Michigan, and the American Modern Ensemble, serving on the faculty of that ensemble's Mostly Modern Festival since 2018. Warren made her recording debut in 2005 with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, performing the Clarinet Concerto of David Dzubay. In 2009, Warren released the album Naked Clarinet on the Crystal Records label; the album featured works for unaccompanied clarinet by Dzubay, Miklós Rósza, Shulamit Ran, Joan Tower, Guy Yehuda, and Libby Larsen.
Warren is a committed performer of contemporary music whose premieres of new clarinet and chamber works have occurred in the U.S., Europe, China, and South Korea. In 2016, she returned to the recording studio and released the chamber music recital Black Lines. She has also been heard on the Innova, Alba, and SCI Records labels. Two of Warren's performances on Ourself Behind Ourself, Concealed, her 2022 album with cellist Dave Eggar, received Grammy nominations for Best Instrumental Performance.
