Styles

b. David Styles, 28 November 1974, Corona, Queens, New York City, New York, USA. Styles made his name with tough east coast hip-hop outfit the LOX. Raised in the Yonkers district of Queens, Styles was not beyond succumbing to the ways of the street as a teenager. It was during his high school career that Styles began to take rapping seriously, as he befriended fellow freestylers Sheek Louch and Jadakiss, forming the Bomb Squad. It was not long before the trio changed their name to the LOX, and befriended renowned producer Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs, who took the young act under his wing and signed them to his label, Bad Boy. The trio’s promising future was briefly put on hold, as Styles spent some time in county jail around this time. After appearing on several tracks by other rap artists, the LOX issued their debut album, Money, Power & Respect in 1998. For their follow-up, 2000’s We Are The Streets, they had switched to the Ruff Ryders label (all three members had a long association with the Ruff Ryders crew). Putting the LOX on hiatus for a while, the trio began work on their own solo projects. Styles released A Gangster And A Gentleman in July 2002. The album spawned the popular hit singles, ‘Good Times’ and ‘The Life’, and debuted at number 6 on the Billboard album charts.
