João Pedro Pais

João Pedro Pais (born on September 20, 1971) is a Portuguese singer-songwriter. With a career encompassing two decades of music, Pais’ style combines soft rock with folk, pop, and R&B. Segredos (1997), his debut album, earned Pais a nomination for Best Male Singer at the Globos de Ouro Awards. Recorded in London with producer Luis Jardim, Outra Vez (1999) topped the Portuguese charts and was certified platinum, selling more than 40,000 copies.

He followed his winning streak with Falar Por Sinais (2001), which spawned the hit single “Não Há.” The album earned Pais two Globos de Ouro for Best Male Singer and Best Song. In 2004, he released Tudo Bem and performed at the first edition of Rock In Rio Festival in Lisbon, sharing the main stage with some of the world’s greatest pop luminaries. Two years later, Pais collaborated with Portuguese singer Mafalda Veiga on the project Lado a Lado (2006), which was released as a live album. A Palma e a Mão (2008), Pais’ first solo album in four years, featured guest appearances by Jorge Palma and Zé Pedro (of Xutos & Pontapés fame). After touring extensively throughout Portugal, playing the country’s top venues, he released Desassossego (2012), a 10-track album produced by João Martins that reached the Portuguese Top 20 chart. In the following years, Pais remained very active: Identidade (2015), recorded with the help of top studio musicians, and the compilation 20 Anos (2017) were both well received by critics and audiences. The intimate Confidências (de um homem vulgar) saw the light of day in 2019, cementing his place in the pantheon of Portuguese music as one of the most beloved acts in the Iberian country.
