J Mascis + The Fog
The Fog isn't really a band, but rather a caveat former Dinosaur Jr. frontman J. Mascis has given to fans to distinguish his full-band sound from his acoustic recordings. When Mascis appears in connection with the Fog, it's a signal that he'll be shattering windows and damaging eardrums with his mind-melting levels of guitar feedback. Though the Fog is semi-fictitious, there are a few who can lay claim to being its regulars. On tour, the Fog has featured former Minutemen bassist Mike Watt and former Dinosaur Jr. bandmate and drummer George Berz. Live recordings have benefited from the help of Kevin Shields (Super Furry Animals, My Bloody Valentine) and Bob Pollard of Guided by Voices.
