Fanya Lin

Pianist Fanya Lin excels in both Romantic virtuoso repertory and contemporary music. She is active in the U.S. as both a performer and an educator. Lin was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1989 or 1990. She took up the piano at age four and, even at that age, dreamed of becoming a concert pianist. Moving to the U.S., Lin studied at Weber State University in Utah with Yu-Jane Yang. Earning a bachelor's degree there, she went on for a master's at the Juilliard School in New York and a doctorate at the University of Minnesota. By that time, she had racked up a series of prizes, mostly in the western U.S., beginning with first-place honors at the Snowy Range Piano Competition in Wyoming in 2009 and including a jury special award at the International Russian Music Piano Competition in 2013 and a top prize at the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition in Britain. Lin has appeared with various U.S. orchestras and has had multiple engagements with the Utah Symphony, the Savannah Philharmonic, and the Mississippi Valley Orchestra, among others. She has given solo recitals in such concert series as Schubert Club Musicians on the Rise, the Stecher and Horowitz Young Artist Series, and the series of the Steinway Society of Western Pennsylvania. An enthusiastic chamber music player, she has collaborated with violinist Noah Bendix-Balgley of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Romie de Guise-Langlois of the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Center in New York, and tenor Ta'u Pupu'a. She and Daniel Linder combined to form the Lin-Linder Piano Duo, and she also performs with saxophonist Edward Goodman. Lin performs with a variety of contemporary music organizations and has participated in piano duet concerts featuring works by major female contemporary composers. She appeared on the 2021 album Daniel Asia: Ivory II on the Summit Records label, and in 2023, she made her solo debut on the Navona Records label with the album Rhapsodic: Gershwin, Rachmaninoff, backed by the Lublin Philharmonic of Poland.
