Amy Lee
Amy Lee is a classically trained pianist, singer, and songwriter, renowned for her powerhouse voice. Lee initially made her mark as the co-founder and lead vocalist of the Grammy-winning rock band Evanescence. From their 2003 diamond-certified breakthrough Fallen -- which has sold over 17 million copies around the world -- the band became a mainstay on the rock charts and headline stages, scoring a pair of U.S. chart-toppers with 2006's The Open Door and 2011's Evanescence. Lee also branched out as a solo artist, collaborating with the likes of Lindsey Stirling, Halestorm, Bring Me the Horizon, Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, and Dave Eggar (2014's Aftermath soundtrack). She even released a children's album, Dream Too Much, while guiding Evanescence into the 2020s with the band's fifth set, The Bitter Truth.
Born in Riverside, California and raised across the United States, Lee cites influences ranging from Mozart to Tori Amos, Danny Elfman, and Björk. After establishing herself on the rock scene with Evanescence, she steadily expanded her solo scope in the 2000s, joining Korn on "Freak on a Leash" for their MTV Unplugged set and contributed a cover of "Sally's Song" to Nightmare Revisited, a 2008 tribute album to the Elfman soundtrack The Nightmare Before Christmas. In 2011, she recorded "Halfway Down the Stairs" for another tribute album, Muppets: The Green Album.
In between Evanescence album cycles -- Lee produced her own soundtrack, 2014's largely electronic album titled Aftermath. A collaboration with cellist, pianist, and composer Dave Eggar, it was used as the official soundtrack for the independent film War Story. Another soundtrack with Eggar (Indigo Grey: The Passage) followed in 2015, as did "Voice from the Stone," the title song for a film directed by Eric D. Howell. After a short Evanescence promotional tour at the tail-end of 2015, Lee got to work on a surprising addition to her discography: a children's album. Released in 2016, Dream Too Much was a family affair -- recorded with her father, uncle, and sisters -- inspired by her son Jack. The album included Lee's takes on Sesame Street classics and kid's standards, as well as a handful of originals like "The End of the Book." That same year, she also delivered a solo EP titled Recover, Vol. 1, which featured her takes on tracks by Portishead, U2, Led Zeppelin, and Chris Isaak.
Lee and Evanescence issued their fourth album, Synthesis, in 2017 and followed with Synthesis Live in 2018, which kicked off a popular resurgence for the band. In the years leading up to their next official LP, Lee contributed vocals to songs by tourmates Lindsey Stirling ("Love Goes On and On" from 2019's Artemis) and Halestorm ("Break In"), as well as Body Count ("When I'm Gone"), Wagakki Band ("Sakura Rising"), and Bring Me the Horizon ("One Day the Only Butterflies Left Will Be in Your Chest as You March Towards Your Death"). In 2021, Evanescence issued album number five, The Bitter Truth, mounting a headline tour with Halestorm that year and joining Korn on a summer trek in 2022. That June, Lee teamed with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics on a cover of the Everly Brothers' "Love Hurts."
