David Hallyday poursuit sa carrière en demi-teinte avec son dixième album Un Nouveau Monde. Et comme pour rappeler sa présence de longue date dans le paysage, l’artiste propose en fin d’album une nouvelle version de ses deux plus grands succès, « High » et « Tu ne m’as pas laissé le temps ». Débarrassé de son pathos, « High (2010) » donne un titre minimaliste afraîchissant.
Pierre-Dominique Burgaud, l’auteur du Soldat Rose, a écrit une grande partie des onze textes inédits ; David Hallyday a, lui, signé, les musiques et joué de tous les instruments en studio. Le premier extrait, « On se fait peur », en duo avec sa sœur Laura Smet ne vaut le détour que pour le « buzz » suscité dans les pages de la presse people. À l’origine enregistré avec une jeune actrice inconnue, ce titre mollasson ne donne pas un véritable aperçu de l’album, bien plus énergique.
À commencer par le rock efficace « New York City (Moi je) », un texte sur « la gloire à tout prix » écrit par Grand Corps Malade, qui avait aussi œuvré pour Johnny Hallyday. L’album flirte gentiment, toujours dans un registre nerveux, avec l’electro-rock (« Welcome to Nowhere », « Ma dernière séance » avec, aux chœurs, Emma Daumas, pour qui David Hallyday a composé dans le passé). Le fils de Sylvie Vartan glisse un léger soupçon de folk dans « Rien d’autre que nous ». La fausse ballade « Le Cœur qui boîte » s’impose comme le titre le plus attachant de cet album.
Le chanteur de 43 ans offre un bilan introspectif et générationnel via des mélodies soignées, mid-tempo ou dépouillées (« J’ai vu des rivières », « Le Poids d’être un homme », « Comme au premier jour »). Dommage que la sortie de ce Nouveau Monde coïncide avec l’actualité du « clan Smet ». Pas sûr que ca serve l’artiste David Hallyday.
