L'univers de Bat For Lashes s’inscrit dans un périmètre bien à lui. Pour mettre en place son œuvre, la chanteuse et productrice britannique Natasha Khan est allée puiser l’inspiration dans un court-métrage qu’elle a elle-même réalisé et écrit. Confectionnée entre Los Angeles, Londres, sa ville natale de Brighton et Woodstock dans le New Jersey (où elle dispose de son home-studio), l’intégralité de The Bride sera joué de manière très particulière, alors que les premiers singles ont raisonné dans des églises. La musique narre l'histoire d'une femme voyant mourir son futur mari sur le chemin de leur mariage et est parfois empreinte de mélancolie (Joe's Dream). Entre surexploitation de reverb et chants pêchus, l’album est joliment déstabilisant et témoigne d’une véritable démarche artistique. Le producteur Dan Carey (Nick Mulvey) ou encore le musicien Ben Christophers ont supporté Natasha Khan pour le travail de composition et les arrangements, afin de rendre l'ensemble encore plus cohérent. © AR/Qobuz
