You can't say it's entirely metal, emo, or noisecore, but all three genres steadily do battle throughout the 2008 full-length debut by Warship, Supply and Depend. With From Autumn to Ashes going on "indefinite hiatus" in early 2008, two of its key members -- singer Francis Mark and guitarist Rob Lauritsen -- wasted little time landing back on their feet and launching their new project shortly thereafter. Those expecting Mark and Lauritsen to get all experimental and artsy fartsy may be a tad disappointed (both do double duty, in addition to their usual spots in their previous band, the pair handle drum and bass responsibilities, respectively). Warship specialize in hard-hitting, lean n' mean compositions. In fact, the duo at times sounds like a hybrid of Helmet, Quicksand, and Sunny Day Real Estate, especially on such ditties as the moody "Lousy Horoscope," the explosive "Profit Over People," and the album opener "Toil." Some may pass Warship off as a mere side project, but Supply and Depend is a pretty darn impressive debut, and should certainly do a lot to soothe the disappointment From Autumn to Ashes fans experienced upon their split.
